Shands Cancer Hospital Purchases Paintings of Our Horses for Their Permanent Collection

Shands Cancer Hospital has recently purchased two of artist Sue Johnson's paintings from her "Survivor Series" for their permanent collection.

The paintings feature Mamasita, an elderly Paso Fino mare found starving and neglected and Sweet Pea Slew, a beautiful Thoroughbred who was hit by a car and seriously injured when she and her starving companions pushed through their fences in order to find a place to graze.

The paintings hang in the sixth floor family waiting area along with the stories of the how the horses came to Windhorse Sanctuary.

Sue Johnson is a brilliantly talented and well respected equine artist from Gainesville, Florida, who has visited Windhorse Sanctuary to photograph and then paint our rescue horses.

Sue's work is beautiful, magical and truly expresses the souls of her subjects. We are so proud to welcome her to the Windhorse Family and we are deeply grateful for her continuing support and loving kindness to our animals.

"She definitely connects with the horses" said Bobbie Burnes, VP/Director of Windhorse Sanctuary, "they seem to know Sue is special. They even pose for her when she shows up with the camera."

Sue generously donates a portion of the sale of her work to the animals at Windhorse Sanctuary.

Sue Johnson is a member of the Melrose Bay Art Gallery, Melrose, Florida, the Gainesville Fine Art Association, Plein Air Florida, The Artist Association of North Florida and is a Senior Member of the American Association of Equine Art.
